Lead generation for insurance agents

Lead Generation for Insurance Agents

We built our lead generation for insurance agents for agencies tired of buying leads and racing several other agencies to the same person. Your own campaigns and your own book produce quote requests nobody else is working, and an AI agent contacts every opted-in lead within seconds and books a licensed agent.

Example call conversation between Nora, an AI assistant for Crestview Insurance Group, and a lead named Priya.

  1. Nora (AI): Hi Priya, this is Nora, an AI assistant for Crestview Insurance Group. You asked about bundling auto and home. Is now a good time?
  2. Priya: Yes. My renewal just went up a lot.
  3. Nora (AI): I hear that a lot this year. When do your current auto and home policies renew?
  4. Priya: Auto at the end of next month. Home in the spring.
  5. Nora (AI): Got it. How many drivers and vehicles, and is the home a single-family house?
  6. Priya: Two drivers, two cars, single family.
  7. Nora (AI): Thanks. A licensed agent will compare carriers and walk you through options. I can't promise savings, but they'll show you exactly what's available. Tomorrow at 11:00 AM or 4:00 PM?
  8. Priya: Four works.
  9. Nora (AI): Booked. Have your current declarations pages handy so the comparison is apples to apples.

Booked: Bundle quote review, Tomorrow, 4:00 PM, With a licensed agent.

Lead sources

Where your exclusive leads come from.

Bought leads still have a place. These are the sources that produce quote requests nobody else is calling.

  1. 01

    Your own paid campaigns

Facebook and Google campaigns run one line of business at a time. Every lead they produce is exclusive to you, and you control how fast it gets a call.

  2. 02

    Your current book

Customers who opted in to hear from you, asked about the lines they do not have with you yet. A home-only client asked about auto is the cheapest lead you will ever get.

  3. 03

    Old quotes that never bound

Past quote requests who agreed to be contacted. Their renewal date comes around every year, and most of them never heard from anyone after the first quote.

  4. 04

    Referral partners

Mortgage lenders, real estate agents and car dealers meet your buyers first. Check your state's rebating and referral rules before you offer anything in return.

After the inquiry

From inquiry to booked.

A lead only pays when someone books. This is what happens to every lead, at 2 PM or 2 AM. It's our speed to lead system on AI appointment setters.

  1. 1

    Inquiry arrives

From your own ad, a vendor, a referral partner's form or a customer replying to a renewal check-in.

  2. 2

    Contacted in seconds

An AI agent calls or texts straight away, says it is an AI assistant for your agency, and never quotes a premium.

  3. 3

    Qualified

Line of business, current carrier, renewal date and household or business details, asked one question at a time.

  4. 4

    Booked or nurtured

Ready shoppers book a licensed agent. The rest get a check-in before their renewal date instead of being forgotten.

Bought leads

If you still buy leads.

Most agencies keep some vendor volume. These are the rules we hold it to.

  • Know how many buyers

Ask every vendor how many agencies receive each lead, and get the cap in writing. A lead sold to five agencies is a race, not a lead.

  • Work them in seconds

A shared lead is worth most in the first few minutes. The AI agent calls the moment it lands, at any hour, so you are not the fourth agency to ring.

  • Check the consent

Consent has to cover calls and texts from your agency. A list of names is not consent, whatever the vendor says about it.

  • Judge by bound policies

Compare sources on cost per bound policy, not cost per lead. The cheapest vendor on paper is often the most expensive one per sale.

Before you launch

Rules we build around

  • Calls and texts to leads fall under the TCPA, and calls in an AI voice need the same consent as prerecorded calls (FCC 24-17). We only contact people who opted in.
  • In January 2025 a federal appeals court struck down the FCC's one-to-one consent rule before it took effect (Morrison Foerster summary). Consent that names your agency is still the cleanest record to keep.
  • Some states add their own calling rules. Florida, for example, limits telephone sales calls to 8 AM to 8 PM and three calls in 24 hours on the same subject (Fla. Stat. 501.616).
  • Anti-rebating laws limit what you can give a customer to win the sale, and they differ by state. The NAIC loosened its model in 2020, but only states that adopt it change (Cooley). We describe the rules; your compliance contact approves the program.

Calls and texts only go to people who opted in on your form. How consent works.

Buying insurance leads or generating your own

Buying is fast to start and easy to scale down. The catch is sharing: in LeadGen Economy's 2025 benchmarks, a shared auto lead runs $15 to $35 and an exclusive one $40 to $100, and the shared lead goes to several agencies at once. Our exclusive vs shared leads guide covers how many.

Generating your own takes setup, a few weeks of testing and steady creative, but every lead is yours and you see exactly which ad produced it. Most agencies keep some vendor volume while their own campaigns ramp up, then shift budget toward whichever source has the lower cost per bound policy. How much insurance leads cost has the numbers for each line.

Where AI fits in insurance lead generation

AI does not find buyers for you. It makes sure none of the ones you paid for are wasted. The agent contacts each opted-in lead within seconds, asks the questions a quote needs, books a licensed agent and keeps following up with anyone not ready yet. It never quotes premiums, gives coverage advice or binds anything, because those need a licence.

We run it for you as part of the engagement. Agencies that would rather run the software themselves can look at StrideOps for insurance agents, our sister platform.

How to judge an insurance lead source

Track five numbers for every source: contact rate, quote rate, bind rate, cost per bound policy and how long those policies stay on the books. A source with a low lead price and a poor contact rate loses to almost anything. Give each source a month of clean data before you cut it, and make sure the leads were worked at the same speed, or you are comparing your follow-up instead of the source.

FAQ

Lead Generation for Insurance Agents: questions, answered.

Anything else, ask us on the call.

What is the best lead generation for insurance agents?
The best source is the one with the lowest cost per bound policy for your line, and for most agencies that means a mix: your own paid campaigns for exclusive leads, your current book for cross-sells and renewals, and some vendor volume while those ramp up.
How much do insurance leads cost?
It depends on the line, the state and whether the lead is shared. LeadGen Economy's 2025 benchmarks put shared auto leads at $15 to $35 and exclusive at $40 to $100. Our insurance lead cost guide breaks it down by line.
Where can insurance agents get free leads?
Your own book is the closest thing to free: customers who opted in, asked about lines they do not have with you, and past quotes that never bound. Referral partners help too, within your state's rebating rules. Each one still needs fast follow-up to turn into a quote.
Should insurance agents buy leads?
Buying can work if you contact every lead within minutes and track cost per bound policy. It works badly if the leads sit for an hour, because by then several other agencies have already called.
Will an AI agent quote insurance?
No. It collects the details your licensed agents need and books the call. Quotes, coverage advice and binding stay with licensed people.
